2024 is set to be a pretty big year for Ghostbusters with the release of a new film, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and the franchise’s 40th anniversary. To celebrate, Hasbro is following up its hugely successful Plasma Series Proton Pack with a highly anticipated sequel that will assure fans that they still ain’t afraid of no ghosts! Get ready to gear up with the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Two in the Box! Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter!
Announced in October as part of the Hasbro Pulse 1027 Premium event, and fully funded just three days later, this intricately crafted adult collectible puts two of the most iconic pieces of ghost-bustin’ tech into the hands of fans like never before. Engineered in 1:1 scale and scanned directly from the movie props, this terrifying two-fer incorporates enough screen-accurate detailing to send even the gutsiest of ghouls running for cover. Let’s take a closer look.
The Psychokinetic Energy (P.K.E.) Meter is ready for action straight out of the box thanks to a host of classic features taken straight from the films. In addition to a multi-LED display panel and motorized LED-lined wings, Hasbro’s realistic replica also includes entertainment-inspired sound effects, a mode slide switch, Ghost Detection Mode, and a display stand. But, that’s not all! The artisans at Hasbro have engineered the P.K.E. Meter with a unique upgrade — Egon Spengler’s special taser mode from his time in Summerville as the Dirt Farmer. This one-of-a-kind feature forces an apparition to either reveal itself or explode in a burst of marshmallow goo, as we know from Podcast’s dealings with some rather mischievous Mini-Pufts in the Ecto-1.
The other half of this dynamic duo is the Ghost Trap. Designed by the movie’s characters, Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler, this crucial containment unit features a working activation panel, removable cartridge, high-powered internal LEDs, and functioning metal wheels for smooth deployment. Add to that realistic sound effects, a functioning trap door, a docking station display stand, and premium metal finishes and you’ve got a pristine prop so pretty that ghosts will be throwing themselves at you for a chance to be trapped within this highly detailed premium collectible.
Several unlockable tiers are also being offered as part of the campaign and include everything from exclusive patches and blueprints to a special Ghost Trap holster. As of this writing, the first two levels have been unlocked. Should the campaign reach 18,000 backers before closing, fans will also be able to get their hands on a Mini-Puft logo patch and P.K.E. Meter holster.
Available for pre-order through Hasbro Pulse until December 11th, 2023, the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Two in the Box! Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter is priced at $299.99 USD. The spook-tacular set is estimated to begin shipping out to supporters in late Fall 2024.
Even after 40 years, Ghostbusters continues to delight audiences and capture the imagination of fans around the globe. A worldwide phenomenon that is second to none, it not only made flight suits sexy, but also dared to ask the question: “Who you gonna call?” After all these years, we still know the answer!
Happy Anniversary, Ghostbusters. Here’s to another 40 years of saving the world!
