FunKey Project lets you play retro games on-the-go with its FunKey S handheld video game console.
FunKey S is a foldable compact console that clips onto a keychain and easily slips into a pocket. The micro-sized console features a full-colour display and mono speaker within its tiny 42.5 x 44.5 x 13.8 mm clamshell format. The GameBoy Advanced SP-inspired unit comes pre-loaded with games and more available for download to the console’s 128GB of storage.
Available in three colours–original purple, retrogaming gray, and atomic purple–the unit offers 60 minutes of gameplay when fully charged and can be played while charging. Consoles that are compatible with FunKey S include NES, SNES, GameBoy, select Sega systems, Playstation 1, and others. The unit is developer-friendly thanks to an open-source approach to development.
FunKey S seems to have hit all the right notes with retro gaming fans. The Kickstarter campaign in 2020 was fully funded within three hours of its launch and the item regularly sells out on the FunKey Project website. However, new production runs reward the patience of those on the waitlist.
