Fawcett’s Antique Toy Museum is a collection of objects of play collected over the lifetime of its founder, John Fawcett.
Opened in the spring of 1987 upon Fawcett’s retirement from teaching at the University of Connecticut, the museum showcases objects he has acquired since childhood, with a focus on the 1930s through 1950s. Familiar characters represented within the collection include Betty Boop, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Lone Ranger, and others. Lionel trains, marionettes, colouring books, tin robots, original comic art, toys, and games are also displayed throughout the facility.
Fawcett has a particular reverence for Disney artwork. This is highlighted with illustrations from Disney artists such as Hank Porter and Ward Kimball.
It’s best to call in advance to make an appointment to tour the museum rather than taking the chance it will be open when you drop by.
