FAN EXPO Canada is one of the largest Pop Culture events in North America, taking place annually in Toronto, Ontario. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced show organizers to cancel the four-day extravaganza in 2020, instead offering a series of ongoing virtual experiences.
This year, fans can connect online with a varied roster of celebrities from popular television shows and movies, both past and present, as well as authors of best-selling novels. The focal point of the live events are interactive Q&A sessions of 45-60 minutes. Each live-streamed Q&A operates on a “donate-what-you-can” system, with all proceeds given to various charities.
Participants can also purchase a series of virtual experience add-ons to level-up their fandom participation. These include one-on-one video chats, personalized autographs, prerecorded messages, and related merchandise.
Past celebrity guests on the charity live streams have included actor John Barrowman of Doctor Who and Arrow fame, Red Rising author Pierce Brown, and cast members of the fantasy television show, Lucifer.
