Den Gamle By — The Old Town — is a living history museum located in Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city.
The town includes over 75 buildings of historic significance brought together from various regions of Denmark. Opened in 1914, the immersive experience includes “residents” dressed in attire from the different eras represented on the museum’s grounds.
National collections featured at Den Gamle By include the Danish Museum of Clocks and Watches; the Danish Poster Museum; and the Toy Museum, which includes over 5,000 objects of play, some dating back to the 1600s. Overall, about 25,000 toys and games are featured throughout the environs.
Den Gamle By is open April 1 through December 30.
