D&D Young Adventurer’s Guides from Ten Speed Press

For novice players of Dungeons & Dragons – the ubiquitous fantasy table-top role-playing game – new illustrated guidebooks provide a gateway into the game experience. The forthcoming D&D Young Adventurer’s Guides from Ten Speed Press is aimed at middle-grade readers (ages 8-12).

The first two books in the series are rules-free guides to some of D&D’s major concepts and lore. Monsters & Creatures gives insight into some of D&D’s deadliest monsters. Each profile includes the monster’s size, danger level, and tips for how to survive an encounter. The book is organized thematically, first focusing on creatures that live underground then moving to surface dwellers and airborne monsters.

Warriors & Weapons is a primer on various D&D characters, their weapons of choice, and related armor, clothing, and other equipment required to support their quests. The book includes a series of tools aspiring players can use to build their own characters, including sample profiles, role-playing challenges to help put kids in an adventurer’s mind-set, and a flow-chart that can be used to determine the type of warrior they want to become.

Both books are slated for release in July 2019 but are available now for pre-order at several on-line book retailers for $12.99 USD. Two additional books, Dungeons and Tombs and Wizards and Spells, are currently in development and scheduled for release in the Fall.
