Skybound Entertainment, the publisher of such smash hit titles as Robert Kirkman’s Invincible, Joshua Williamson’s Cobra Commander, and Daniel Johnson’s Transformers, is bringing sinister storytelling to the tabletop with a brand-new card game that puts the players in control of the narrative.
Inspired by the iconic anthology film from George A. Romero and Stephen King, Creepshow: The Suspense Building Game casts participants in the role of Creeps, malevolent masterminds who must weave twisted tales that see dastardly deviants meeting a well-deserved demise. In addition to strategy and cunning, players will also need to know when to push their luck in a world where deception lurks around every corner. Create chains of story cards and secretly fill them with suspense. Then — at key moments in the game, when tension is at its highest — bet on the amount of suspense to score big! But, beware fellow Creeps sabotaging the story; someone just may end up losing their head!
On each turn, players will decide whether they wish to Creep or Show. Choose Creep, and they can discard any number of story cards in their hand they no longer wish to keep, then draw back up to seven. Then, they can play a Suspense card face-down on the villain stack of their choice. When someone decides to Show, they may play a story card from their hand to a villain’s story chain. Not only will these feature various effects, but some will even introduce a branching path where players can choose how the story goes and make a guess at the amount of suspense the villain has accumulated. If the suspense is equal to or greater than a player’s choice, they’ll earn points and be allowed to adjust the Suspense stack in some way before the next turn.
Once the bottom of the villain deck has been reached, players will face off against a major villain worth more points. However, if the major villain escapes, the player attempting to end their story can no longer win the game! Creepshow ends when the major villain’s story comes to a close.
Included in each box are 54 story cards with nine ending cards, 34 double-sided point tokens, and five reference cards. Designed by Ben Kepner and Dan Strong, with artwork pulled from the Skybound original comic book series of the same name, Creepshow: The Suspense Building Game is certain to bring loads of thrills and chills to any game night. Created for two to five players ages 14 years and older, the game is now available for purchase directly through Skybound Entertainment for $28 USD.
