For the past three years, New York-based family experience company, Camp NYC Inc., has been rolling-out retail stores that provide experiential toy shopping and activities for families.
The first CAMP store debuted in late 2018 in New York City’s Flatiron District at 110 5th Avenue. Since then, multiple locations have been added: three in New York City, one in Connecticut, one in New Jersey, and one in Texas. The company also has plans for aggressive expansion.
CAMP stores include ample retail space with shelves filled with toys, books, and other kid-focused products. The retail mix is curated to include a combination of products from both large and independent toy manufacturers.
Most CAMP locations also feature a “secret magic door” through which children access a themed play area. There, activities and events are interactive and kid-friendly. CAMP employees (called “Counselors”) engage audiences with a mix of performances, crafts, and projects.
Past in-store themes have included Travel Camp, Cooking Camp, Toy Lab Camp, Base Camp, and Cosmic Camp. Each store offers a distinct programming experience with event areas rotating quarterly.
