The Bonniebrook Museum in Walnut Shade, Missouri, is a treasure trove dedicated to the life and work of Rose O’Neill, the creator of the Kewpie doll and a pioneering female cartoonist.
The museum is situated on the historic homestead where O’Neill’s family settled in 1893. Visitors can explore the recreated 14-room mansion that O’Neill adored, along with a fine art gallery displaying her original works, including pieces exhibited in Paris and published in major magazines like Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar.
In addition to the mansion and art gallery, the museum features a vast collection of Kewpie memorabilia, such as dolls, figurines, and comic pages. The scenic grounds include walking trails, sculpture gardens, and the O’Neill family cemetery, all of which are open to the public free of charge.
The museum and home tours are available from April to October.
