Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum – Columbus, Ohio

The world’s largest collection of American cartoons and comics resides at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at Ohio State University.

Founded in 1977 as a resource for academic research, the Library & Museum focuses on printed comic art. The collection includes 2.5 million comic strip clippings; 300,000 original cartoons; and an assortment of books, serials, and manuscript materials. After outgrowing its first two-classroom facility, the Library & Museum now occupies 40,000 square feet reserved exclusively for collections, a reading room, and gallery.

Much of the collection can be viewed only onsite. A limited number of works are also available through the library’s digital archives. The facility is open to the public during limited hours each week.
