Few shows defined Saturday mornings in the 1990’s quite like Batman: The Animated Series. Developed by the dynamic duo of Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, this iconic adaption of Bob Kane’s Caped Crusader featured an all-star cast and unique “Dark Deco” design that quickly made it one of the most groundbreaking superhero serials for the small screen.
Praised by critics for its writing, art design, voice acting, orchestrated soundtrack, and modernized source material, the series won multiple Daytime Emmy Awards during its initial run, as well as a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Programming. It also served as a stepping stone to the much larger DC Animated Universe, which featured a number of spin-off shows ranging from Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited, to the more futuristic Batman Beyond and Static Shock.
Now, in celebration of Batman’s 85th anniversary, LEGO has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and DC to bring fans Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City, a 4,210-piece recreation of the skyline featured in the seminal series. Closer in design to a buildable three-dimensional painting than a traditional LEGO set, this unique take on Gotham City embraces the show’s one-of-a-kind art style and features several key locales from the show, including Ace Chemicals, Arkham Asylum, Gotham City Court, and The Stacked Deck. Additionally, the box is full of “Easter eggs” that include tiny buildable versions of the Batmobile, Batwing Bat Signal, and more. Parts of the portrait even open up to reveal extra intricacies on the inside.
As if this avant-garde approach wasn’t interesting enough, the set also includes four minifigures! Batman, Joker, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn are all present and accounted for, each inspired by their appearance on the show. There is even a cool gargoyle-flanked rooftop build that allows fans to display all four characters.
The perfect project for any DC fan, this distinctive tribute to Gotham City is a stunning display piece that can be wall-mounted or placed on a shelf. Priced at $299.99 USD, the set went live for pre-order on April 1st for LEGO Insiders, with a wide release on April 4th.
Are you ready to get nuts and add this bat-tastic piece to your LEGO display?
