It’s the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s iconic song, Space Oddity, and in its honour, Mattel has released a limited-edition collector Barbie doll decked out as the late singer’s iconic alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. The doll’s look is almost identical to what Bowie fans saw him sport on his legendary 1972 album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Mattel’s homage includes backcombed red hair and the metallic Ziggy Stardust space suit, complete with red and blue stripes and flared shoulders. Bowie’s signature cherry-red platform boots complete the ensemble. Cosmic accessories and face paint that includes the character’s gold astral sphere forehead glyph add authentic detail.
The Barbie David Bowie Doll is available now for $50 USD. It can be purchased directly from Mattel’s online store and a variety of other online retailers.
