Game Informer has returned to newsstands, marking its first wide retail presence since the magazine shuttered in 2024. The move comes less than a year after Gunzilla Games acquired the long-running publication and relaunched it with a renewed focus on in-depth games journalism.
The return delivers on a vision executive editor Brian Shea shared in a June 2025 conversation with Toy Tales. At the time, Shea described the opportunity to build on the foundation established in the magazine’s previous iteration, noting the intent to continue the editorial approaches that resonated with readers while reassessing others, “We want to continue doing all the stuff that we loved doing before, and all the stuff that our readers loved, but we want to do it bigger and better than before,” he said, adding that the relaunch allowed the team to rethink certain elements while maintaining continuity.
With the disappearance of magazines such as GamePro and Nintendo Power, physical options in gaming publications have become increasingly rare. Shea pointed to the continued appeal of print, observing, “There’s something different in 2025 about having a tactile print magazine that you can hold in your hand and flip through.”
Under Gunzilla Games, Game Informer is rebuilding with a long-term investment approach. Alongside the restored print edition, the outlet has expanded its video content and broader editorial coverage. The return to retail shelves reflects confidence in the publication’s editorial direction and suggests continued interest in print within a largely digital-first games media landscape.
