Since its initial release in 2004, the Atari Flashback has provided retro-gamers with a dedicated console to play popular Atari games. Over the years, each successive release has included an increasing number of video games from the Atari library. Version 7 of the console continues this trend, with the total number of embedded games increased to a whopping 101.
In place of ROM-based game cartridges, games are built into the console. You’ll find many of the classic Atari 2600 and 7800 games from back in the day, including Centipede, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Frogger, Jungle Hunt, and my personal favorite, Video Pinball.
The Flashback 7 draws design inspiration from the original Atari 2600 console. It is powered by an AC adapter and includes a pair of wireless joystick controllers. Two plugs on the front of the console also allow for the use of corded joysticks and paddle controllers. The system uses standard composite video and RCA audio connectors to connect to a television.
The Atari Flashback 7 checks in at $49.99 USD and will be available in the October/November timeframe from a variety of retailers.
