Sci-fi horror fans have a new co-op tabletop game from Ravensburger to add to their friends-and-family game nights. Based on the iconic film classic from 1979, Alien: Fate of the Nostromo allows up to five players to play one of the ship’s crew members: Ripley, Lambert, Parker, Brett, or Dallas. The crew must work together to maintain morale and prepare the spaceship to return to deep space — all while being stalked by everyone’s favourite xenomorph.
Each player’s turn comprises two phases: the Crew Action phase and the Encounter phase.
In the Crew Action phase, players navigate through the Nostromo, gathering scrap, creating gear, and completing objectives outlined during game setup. Crew members can strategically trade items to assist in their tasks. Some crew members are endowed with unique skills that allow them to complete specific jobs faster than others.
In the Encounter phase, players must contend with several perils, including the Alien emerging from its nest to hunt them down. These unforeseen dangers force the crew to address each crisis while morale does not reach zero, ending the game.
While navigating between phases, the players must complete all of their initial objectives before embarking on one of five “final missions, each with a unique set of requirements.”
If dealing with the Alien isn’t challenging enough, the players can also choose to introduce Science Office Ash into the mix, an additional crew member who works against their efforts.
The Alien: Fate of the Nostromo gameboard features a “rendered isometric view” of the ship and comes with illustrated cards and six detailed sculpted miniatures. The game is set to be released in August 2021 at a cost of $29.99 USD.
