It’s a dot-eat-dot world!
Founded by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney in 1972, Atari helped define the electronic entertainment industry from the 1970s to the mid-1980s. The company brought gaming into the home with the launch of the 2600 in September 1977 (originally branded as the Atari VCS). It later introduced other systems, including the 5200, 7800, Jaguar, and the groundbreaking Lynx, the first 16-bit handheld console.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of PAC-MAN, and Atari is celebrating by teaming up with retro game developer Plaion to launch the 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition this fall. The collaboration also includes Bandai Namco Entertainment, PAC-MAN’s original publisher, who partnered with Atari to bring the arcade hit to home consoles in 1982.
Infused with the character’s signature style, the 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition sports a bright yellow finish and illuminated character icons across the front. It is also equipped with an HDMI output for compatibility with modern TVs and features both forward and backward compatibility with hundreds of Atari’s cartridge-based games.
The retail package includes the 2600+ console, a matching yellow CX-40+ Wireless Joystick, and the PAC-MAN: Double Feature cartridge, which contains a new arcade-style version of PAC-MAN 7800 alongside the original PAC-MAN 2600 release. For those seeking something different, special ghost-themed controllers will be sold separately, in blue (Inky), pink (Pinky), red (Blinky), and orange (Clyde).
The Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition collection is available for pre-order now. The console bundle is priced at $169.99 USD. Ghost controllers are $39.99 USD each or $199.95 USD for the complete set of five. The PAC-MAN: Double Feature gaming cartridge can also be pre-ordered for $34.99 USD.
PAC-MAN Fever returns October 31st, 2025.
